Best History Teacher Ever by Wyatt - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
If I taught students, I would feel the most confident teaching history because not only is it the most interesting subject in school in my opinion, but it is also one of the best areas I excel at. I enjoy learning history because they are true stories of what has happened on Earth in the past. As I grew throughout childhood learning history in school, I would compare the historical events and stories I heard or read in class with fictional stories like Star Wars, Assassin’s Creed, and certain Marvel comics. I would strive everyday to be at least part of the reason my students liked history.
From elementary school to my time in college presently, I make connections to historical events I learn about, with fictional stories that I have read, watched, or played. For example, when I first played Assassin’s Creed 2, I made connections with the game’s historical aspects. Another example would be when I made comparisons with politics and war with Star Wars and World War II. This was a strategy that helped me succeed in class, but it was more of a fun activity which made history most enjoyable for me to this day.
Ever since I had attended history classes in middle school, I developed a desire for learning about old civilizations and different cultures from around the world. The teachers I have had were a great inspiration over the years and still are today. That inspiration gave me the urge to learn more about history and has made me consider to become a historian, but I am still unfortunately undecided. Nevertheless, if I do not become a historian, history will always be a personal passion of mine.
