She Inspired Me by Withney - January 2017 Scholarship Essay

She inspired me to be not to give. She helped me find my passion.

When I get to college, I plan on pursuing a career in nursing. I always take every chance that I can to get experience in this field. When I was in middle school, I visited my mom and my dad at their jobs when they were working. Whether it was at a nursing home or working with patients in their homes, I always loved watching, taking notes and aspiring to take care of patients just like they do.

So, of course, when I got into high school I started volunteering at a nursing home. I wasn't certified or licensed in anything but I was experienced because I had been in a magnet middle school and a technical high school before I moved. Plus, I had my CPR card. Although the only jobs I could do was organize supply closets, work with the activity director, help with laundry and work at the receptionist desk on occasion, I loved helping out.

When I had gotten to 11th grade, I was starting to doubt if I wanted to continue in nursing. I didn't even feel as if I wanted to even go to college. But I still needed volunteer hours so I continued. Soon enough, I was able to work with patients. I took care of them the way I was thought to: with care and with passion. Even though I did what I was supposed to do, I never put much thought into it until on my last day one of my patients started crying. She told me that I had given her the best care compared to everyone else. and that I would be missed and never be forgotten. That day changed my life. I no longer had doubts about what I wanted to do. I knew that I wanted to be a nurse to get more of those reactions to know that I make a difference in the life of other.

Because I know I can make a difference, I want to be able to make one.
