Go All In by william - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
Knowing what I know now, the one piece of advice that I would share with younger students is - get good grades from the start.
Freshman year is full of many things - from the stressful to the distracting. Not only are you the newbie, finding your way around and your spot in general, but you are also surrounded by many new faces - kids and teachers - new experiences, and tougher expectations. It is very easy to focus on the fun, the sports, and the social and allow your grades to slide. It does not take long for this to happen. DO NOT be distracted from achieving good grades. If college is even a remote possibility for you, your grades matter, starting in freshman year. Even one F is devastating. It creates a huge uphill battle to revive your GPA, costing you effort that could have been better used to maintain your good standing instead of fighting to regain it.
Even though it might not feel that way right now, high school really will be over before you know it. Your future college and career dreams should always be on your mind. To accomplish your dreams for tomorrow, take my advice and start today - focus on those grades.
