Connecting the World by Whitney - November 2017 Scholarship Essay

If I could study abroad I would have a whole new insight on the world and what I have to offer. I would learn about new ways of living, about different cultures, and possibly new ways of communicating. It has always been my dream to learn a new language. Studying abroad would help me understand the world from a different perspective. I would be so intrigued to socialize with other college students in another country. Do they share my same interests? I wonder if there educational experience was different from my own.
My goal is to be a teacher. The more I am able to learn about the world the more I will be able to teach my future students. I have an ambition to change the world one student at a time. Learning about different ways of living, different ways of learning, and different ways of thinking would help me to teach my students that there is always something new to learn and that every individual has something special to offer the world. Understanding other's perspectives helps us to be more sensitive towards others feelings and understand that there are many different ways to accomplish things.
Growing up in a modern day middle class home it was not always easy for me to learn the way my peers were able to. I struggled with a generalized learning disability and had to learn how to overcome many challenges throughout my education. I learned to that I had to lean on my strengths of technology, visualization, and my ability to connect with others in order to learn and achieve my goals. Today I represent my senior class on the honor roll, am a varsity cheerleader, and highly involved with the elite high school dance company team. I learned that I have so much to offer the world and that you can accomplish what ever you put your heart and mind to.
Knowing different perspectives helps to unite people from different societies and different nations. We all need to be supportive of each other and every individuals differences. I believe that knowledge is power and the more we can teach each other the better our world will be.
