Wisdom From Experience by Warren - July 2025 Scholarship Essay

The one piece of advice that I could give to my past self is that never settle for just enough. As a young child, I was given a lot praise for being good child and as even praise by many in my family as the smartest out of my siblings. The problem is, it created a mindset where I did just enough in school to get by. It made me in a way prideful because being I was considered “the smart one” that it made me very selective in who I listen to. If anyone had insight to share with me, I would say “yes” with my mouth but if I didn’t really understand, I would not tell because I didn’t want them to know that I didn’t know they were saying. That mindset keep me limited and unfortunately, the biggest shock was the day I got my last report where my final GPA was 1.9. Back then, it was just enough to get accepted into college but the reality that I finished with a high D was embarrassing. So, I would encourage my past self to not settle with just doing enough to get but to give your all and watch the reward at the end.
