The night time is the right time by Wangui - January 2019 Scholarship Essay

Beep! Beep! Beep! I reluctantly roll to the other side of my bed in an effort to end the incessant cacophony of my alarm clock. I sometimes, I think I can hear this annoying alarm in my dreams.

I’m in this serene state that is violently interrupted by the beckoning call of reality.

Beep! I mumble expletives to myself as I clumsily reach out and end this racket. I’m so disoriented that at this point that all I can do is stare hazily at the ceiling and wonder why the day can’t start at noon.

So, there you have it- I am a most definitely a denizen of the night.

Think back to those underrated, wonderfully cheesy vampire- werewolf films you watched as kid. If, however you were unfortune enough to miss out on those funny flicks, then I still permit you to continue reading. In those flicks, there was minimal activity during the day , so all the fun occurred in the night. This is comparable to my brain-buffering during the day, but fully loaded at night.

I remember reading a quote which stated “3 AM is the hour of writers, painters, poets, over-thinkers, silence seekers, and creative people. We know who you are; we can see your light on. Keep on keeping on.” After reading this quote I felt both personally attacked and thoroughly encouraged since the quote instructed “keep on keeping on.”

There’s a strange satisfaction being up during the wee hours of the night. This time permits the most abstract thoughts; things that creep in your brain due to suppressed sleepiness. What better time to complete menial household tasks, such as laundry or cleaning my room. T’is also the time for quality pet time! After pulling off the comforter from my bed, I journey down to the basement and proceed to watch a movie. Often times, my Russian Blue kitty nestles herself comfortably in a self-created burrow on my lap.

So, for me the night time is the right time. Who knows-I might just be a vampire!
