"Describe one New Year's resolution that will help you become a better student in 2016" by Wade - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
New year's resolution
Apparently, it is 2016 a New Year, this means that different people have different ideas of New Year resolution that will encourage them to eat a healthy diet, keep check of their physical fattiness and even work harder in their daily activities. However, if you are still in college, it is challenging to pick new year's resolutions that are relatively attainable or enjoyable. In my perspective, last year was great and fun for me, but I would wish to make this year 2016 be my year of success academically. I realized I was wasting a lot of time last year in personal activities such as attending friend’s parties, watching movies, or even socializing with fellow students on the campus. So far, I have developed various new resolutions that will assist me on the way to self-improvement. For example, I plan to come to class prepared, make friends, have enough hours of sleep, eat healthy diets, know at least one professor in our college, explore my talents and passion.
Consequently, one major new resolution that I have to fulfill in order to obtain a better grade this year is to have a routine schedule. Last year, lack of proper time management strategy was the reason I did not achieve my desired grade. Therefore, this year having my personal routine schedule is my dominant strategy towards solving time waste in my academic routine. Even though, I know implementing a person routine schedule is very challenging because it seems boring and it took much work, it is essential to establish a routine for any student to succeed in his studies. Personal routine is significant because it keeps structures and order in assisting students to thrive. A personal routine will help me be secure and safe because I know that different things are done at a particular time. Additionally, it will help me avoid repetition of tasks this will mentor me into being an independent individual who will work in any condition.
Contrarily, in establishing my routine, I will categorize it into morning routines, after-school routine, dinner routines, bedtime routines, and personal activities routine. In morning routine, it will require me to avoid watching late night movies if I have early morning classes. This will enable me to hear my morning alarm and be able to be in class on time. Also, before attending classes, it will be helpful for me to go through my notes to get familiarized with my previous lessons. In addition to that, allocating time to my personal grooming like dressing up, teeth brushing and packing necessary school items is also important in my routine development. In after school routine, it involves activities that I will be doing in my free time like socializing with friends, sports activities, watching movies, general cleaning and completing homework. In dinner routine, it involves buying groceries early before dinners and ensuring that I shop for quantities of items at once so as to avoid daily shopping. In bedtime routines, it means having a quality time of sleep and avoiding watching night movie if I have early morning lectures the next day. Lastly, the personal routine will include activities such as physical exercises, visiting family, and friends.
In conclusion, establishing a personal routine is the New Year’s resolution that will help me become a better student in 2016. This is because it will aid in my time management strategy and also help me be in class early as required by the school.
