Evaluate the impact a particular event or a person has had on your life? by Vung - April 2019 Scholarship Essay

This year in April, I went to Dallas for the Key Club District Convention at the Sheraton Hotel for four days. My heart was pounding since it was my first trip for the District Convention representing Jenks Key Club with a group of officers. It was the second night for the District Convention. I was biting my bottom lip as I walked into the hotel lobby. On a red Jacquard loom wool carpet, many clubbers from different districts standing onto their highly varnished leather oxfords and dainty heels. They were chattering and their breath whispering, “I can’t wait to get inside,” tapping their hands and feet, queuing in a line under the big chandelier, wanting to get into the ballroom.

15 minutes later, I got into the ballroom. The room was dark as my heart was racing. I sat on a chair with the excitement on my face in the third row. Every year, the Key Club District Convention has a motivational speaker. Marc Mero was a motivational speaker who was the one impact my life through his speech. My jaws dropped on the floor when I saw a former professional wrestler for the first time. He wrapped the wireless microphone headset around his cheek and began his speech while strolling around a stage which was filled with the decoration of a gigantic foam building with a disco light shining towards him. He started his speech by talking about his life, and how he became a professional wrestler through his difficulties situations. He encouraged every audience who were in the ballroom, not to give up on their ambition even though there are a lot of obstacles around us. There, he always said three words with his eyes wide opened, “Never Give Up.” His speech was very emotional that my neck began to shake through my nerve and I broke out in sobs once I heard his story. The warmth of my body grew cold as it was sharp enough to pierce my skin. I never knew that his speech was so touching that made everyone in the room became very emotional. That was the day that I had a sudden reminiscence through his speech that I should be working really hard that I shouldn’t give up on little small things. I should keep trying which I believe will make me succeed. Still, I am so honored that I have accomplished participating in a school leadership position in Key Club as a Secretary. I wanted and tried everything I can do while I am in high school.
