Who is the Strongest Super Hero? by Violette - March 2024 Scholarship Essay
Strong superheroes to young kids are always characters like Captain American, Iron man, or Thor; there what I thought as superheroes too, until I grew older and realized that the strongest and most influential superhero would be watching the heroes on screen with me. While of course, these heroes are the biggest in pop culture, sometimes our strongest superheroes are the people who sacrifice themselves to give us better opportunities and push us to be better. My dad is my own superhero; he has always been a key figure in my life and influenced who I am today for his strength and ability to pull through and work towards his dreams, causing me to pull through and achieve my dreams as well.
My dad is the strongest person I know, for his ability to work hard to accomplish his dreams, even if it meant leaving his home country to give my brother and I better opportunities in life. As an immigrant, my dad did not have the best resources in America to provide things like food, shelter, or clothing for our family. By working all day, he made sure we had everything we needed, even if it meant sometimes, he would not be home in time to watch his favorite superhero movies with us. The struggle he endured trying to support his own family led him to use strong discipline on my brother and me. He used strong discipline on me as a child because he did not want me to struggle like he did, so he pushed me to reach my full potential by making me focus on my future, education, and responsibilities. However, as a child I did not like the idea of responsibilities, discipline, or homework. So, once I got a mind of my own, the method of parenting he used became full of hard nights and arguments. At the time I was so naïve and ignorant towards my own future; that I disregarded my education, convinced my procrastination couldn’t have such a big effect on me. My procrastination caused a deep spiral in my academics that seemed like a bottomless pit, full of missing work and credits. I struggled for years trying to work myself out of the position I was in. I then realized that the pressure and responsibilities brought upon me by my dad would be something only future me would understand when life got hard: Succumbing to procrastination and temporary joy, can only hold you back from your full potential. Impacting me by giving me the strength of my father, sacrificing temporary joy to accomplish even bigger dreams of mine.
For this reason, I take my dad’s strength everywhere I go. Never knowing he would be my own superhero and saving me from a life full of struggles, he taught me the worth of education while giving his all to support our family. He taught me how to have a strong will, for he always worked towards his dreams and never let my family down, regardless of the situation we were in. His impact on my life has made me a stronger woman with the drive to work towards my dreams because not only would I live life full of prosperity and happiness, my own superhero’s legacy would also continue to flourish.
