Helping You, Help Me by Victoria - January 2015 Scholarship Essay
To whom it may concern;
What is the key to success in teaching? That is a great question. Many teachers wonder if what they are doing is enough to affect their student’s lives in the most positive manner. Let me, help you, help me. The one piece of advice I would offer to teachers pondering such questions is ENTHUSIASM is key.
When a teacher comes confident and exuberant into the class room, it is contagious. Having a strong head knowledge is good, but being able to pass on a love for knowledge is a whole different story. A love for knowledge is given when the teacher is passionate about what they teach. Lessons that are taught with excitement and zeal are the lessons that are truly understood and applied by students.
During my time in high school, my Principal would take lessons and make them into stories. She would use high voices, low voices, movement, excitement, along with her head knowledge to convey life lessons to us. Those lessons that I learned from her are the ones that I will not forget. I have taken her words of wisdom and zeal for life and use that when I am trying to convey a story before students.
This is what I believe to be the most valuable information for teachers to help students. I know it definitely helped me. Thank you for your consideration
Sincerely,
Victoria Montgomery
