My ideal classroom environment. by Victoria - October 2014 Scholarship Essay
There are many factors to include when I am seeking an ideal classroom; for example, what is the class size ratio from teacher to student, what are the learning techniques provided, are there any visual aides provided, and is there any tutoring provided by the teachers. These are the main things that I look for when I am searching for a good classroom environment. By having certain criteria met in a classroom, the benefits received are priceless for me.
I prefer a class where the ratio from teacher to student is about 1-20 because it will allow the teacher more time to focus on me and my needs in the class along with the other student’s needs. It also allows me to form a better bond with the teacher and learn their techniques. Another thing that is great with having less students in a class is that it becomes less stressful when asking questions and needing help on certain assignments, thus providing a better environment and learning. Visual aides are a big help depending on the class. If I am in a Biology class, having hands on learning is wonderful because it allows me to not only visual from my textbook, but it allows me to apply the things I have learned. Tutoring is another big classroom bonus for me to look for. There are times where I have needed tutoring for a subject, but had to go to the tutoring hall, which was not that helpful. Some tutoring halls are taught by other teachers and/or students; this can be a hard thing because the material may be the same, but the information is taught differently, which made it harder for me study. I have found that having the teachers provide some tutoring of their own material makes it easier for me to understand it and learn it. Having the right classroom environment is important because it can allow me to succeed and show my true potential.
A classroom is a time for learning and growing as an individual. Having the right settings and necessities can make the world of difference to a student. The right size classroom allows me to get to know the teacher and their techniques; visual aides are big part for students who learn with aides instead of just the book, and tutoring is another big step that can help me achieve my highest grade. In the end it is all about the classroom and how it is used. In my eyes, all of these things combined make for a wonderful classroom environment.
