My Unrealistic Dream by Victoria - June 2017 Scholarship Essay
I remember being in Kindergarten and we had to answer a question similar to this essay question which was, "What do you want to be when you grow up"? Christmas had just ended and we had just got back from winter break so I knew what my answer was going to be; I wanted to be an elf. I thought that it was going to be the perfect job for me since i was the shortest out of my class and loved putting smiles on everyones face. So why not have the dream of becoming Santa's little helper. Also, I loved Christmas if you already could not tell. I was a true believer in Santa Claus until my parents and my teacher crushed my dreams.
When we were done writing our answers, our teacher read them out loud to the whole class. When she read mine she laughed and thought it was a joke. So, she told my parents who also told me that being an elf was not a real job, which resulted in me to think that Santa Clause was never real. It really did hurt my feelings of one day becoming an elf. So, instead of becoming an elf I wanted to become an artist. I felt like becoming an artist was more realistic and similar to an elf because you could make things and give it to others who would be satisfied with it.
I thought it would be a great job to have and be the easiest. Man, was I wrong; when I took art classes in high school my freshman year, I had the worst teacher ever. She uninspired me of becoming an artist. She criticized my artwork and always gave me a C on most of my work, but I did not let that stop me from dreaming. That same year I remember that my aunt was about to have my little cousin and my mom and I were on our way to the hospital. As we arrive my cousin was here and I was excited. They had to take him into the nursery which included other newborns who were peacefully sleeping. I saw so many nurses and pediatricians in the nursery rocking the babies to sleep and making sure they had all the tings they needed.
I was so fascinated by this job that it instantly became my dream job. So instead of being a small person making gifts for kids, to becoming an artist who made thing for others, I wanted to be a pediatrician who took care of small human beings. I stuck to this dream job by taking classes such as Anatomy and Psychology. I fell in love with learning about the human body and how the human mind works. As of today, I am going to college to major in pre med to one day become the pediatrician i want to be.
