The Nobel Peace Prize is quite possibly the most well-known award out in the world for is prestigious award holders, but why is that? To understand this better let’s look at a sentence straight from Nobel himself, “done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses” this is what qualifies a Nobel Peace Prize. With this in mind there is two things for certain that give a chance for a prize the ceasing of war and at the same time joining sides.
With this understanding of how the awards work we can look at the first side of the coin, the ceasing of war. There are multiple ways to stop a fight but fewer ways involve ending it peacefully. Our candidate would need to prove themselves in helping better humanity in a safe way. It doesn’t even have to be a singular person like the prize for last year in 2017 to ICAN. They work to abolish nuclear weapons the most damaging and longest lasting devastation that man can do in this world. This noble cause is perfect for a shot at a Nobel peace prize.
The next qualification would to be to help join sides of opposing sides. A perfect example would be the EU when they won in 2012. They had been helping people settle differences and come together to help build a strong union. No easy feat considering the vast different cultures and people on the opposite side of the world. This goes back the reason for helping and coming together to make peace in the world.
Both show a very good example of getting involved in ending war and coming together for the betterment of humanity. These are the qualifications for the Nobel Peace Prize and every candidate should possess them. The great deeds the two have done will live on and provide an example for other who wish to do right by humanity have a shot at something greater than themselves and obtain a the proper recognition for it.
