So many Lessons, So much Time, and All This Money by Vashawn - April 2023 Scholarship Essay
Fate has finally smiled upon me by granting me a blank check and unlimited time to do with whatever I will. The only stipulation is that I must positively impact the world with what I have learned in school. Yes, I have learned math, science, and geography, but the most important lessons I have learned involved people in some fashion. If someone asked me what I have learned from being in school all these years, I would sum it up to the following: By increasing your holistic value, you can increase the value of those around you, everyone needs to be led differently, so learn and appreciate everyone's differences before trying to lead them, and finally, break large goals down into little tasks. Given these three lessons, I have a good idea of how I would use my unlimited money to impact the world positively.
If given unlimited money with unlimited time, there would be much I could work on; World pollution, world hunger, world peace, and exploring the oceans. However, the most important aspect I would work on first is myself. I firmly believe in "A better me is a better you." Far too often, people are too mentally burdened by finances and lack of time to focus on fixing their traumas, increasing their education, and overall self-improvement. With my new unlimited resources, I would use my time and money to find the best therapist and wellness coaches to ensure my mind and body were right. Amongst striving for physical and mental wellness and clarity, I seek to understand the world's issues better and assess what needs to be done to fix them. Now that I do not have to worry about doing what it takes to provide for my family, I have all the time to sit down and address what needs to happen to shift the world into a positive era. However, to make the world a better place, I would first have to understand the building blocks of society; the people.
I learned in school that to lead a diverse group of people, you need to understand everyone's differences and appreciate those differences. Misunderstanding leads to fear and prejudice. In a sense, I am unchained. Not bounded by the cost of flights, housing, or transportation. With unlimited time and finance, I would connect with everyone across the world, not blinded by political bias. From a broader aspect, I would make it easily assessable for those seeking understanding and peace to travel and experience different cultures. This would allow for global connection and a global perspective for those individuals tethered by financial burden and time. Facebook and Instagram are one thing, but physically interacting with people will provide a deeper, more meaningful connection. Understanding is the foundation for the growth of the human population. By being the catalyst for a meaningful global connection, I could lead the world down a path to making the world's critical issues more manageable.
The ability to break big tasks down into manageable tasks is a critical skill everyone should learn, but even more so when it comes to Global matters. That is why we have teams and government officials with different specialties and perspectives to help develop a practical course of action. If given an unlimited budget, I would tackle every global issue with this mentality, save for minor changes involving the world's governments. For example, Let us start with the issue of decreasing the amount of pollution that humans create. One aspect of reducing pollutants on a global scale is lowering the environmental cost of progression. If that were too big of an issue, I would break it down into more manageable tasks, like how we can reuse materials more effectively. If I had unlimited money and time, I would tackle every global issue by breaking down the problems into more manageable tasks, empowering people worldwide to make decisions for the betterment of humanity.
Having unlimited time and money as a resource to unbound myself to make the world a better place. I am confident that with what I have learned in school: "A better me equals a better you," lead from a place of understanding, and break large goals down into manageable tasks, I can make the world a more positive place given unlimited time and money.
