The Gift of Life by Vanessa - August 2023 Scholarship Essay
When one thinks of the word surviving, we often associate the connotation with tense circumstances, rigid emotions, and a sense of lingering anxiety. We might think of apocalyptic conditions or wilderness adventures. However, some might associate the word with their daily life.
Growing up, I was involved in many different clubs, organizations, and sports that I committed my time to outside of my school work. Oftentimes I found myself stressing about where I allowed my time to linger. If what I saw as successful, was serving me towards a successful life. I was drowned in work, juggled extra circulars, and stressed about not having enough quality time with those I loved. It was a daunting experience, one nonetheless, that has taught me valuable lessons that I will continue to carry with me outside my time in grade school. Graduating high school with honors and receiving not only my diploma, but additionally a certification in phlebotomy, and nursing assistance, was a symbol of triumph and persistence. With these achievements, I am now able to practice my talents and rigorously study at a university with distinguished scholars that will continue to push me throughout my academic career. Obtaining these certifications will allow me to have a head start in my desired field and cater to my goals and aspirations. As a first-generation Latina student, I have seen the effects of living in a world you don’t seem to fit inside. I strive to become a healthcare professional that can create a comforting, inviting, and inspiring space for individuals who wish for a better future for themselves. I am continually grateful for the opportunities I have endured and will continue to have that my loved ones did not. That in itself is a blessing in disguise in the pressure the world inflicts.
Although I have renounced academic achievements throughout my education that will greatly impact my future goals, what I consider to be the biggest achievement is the appreciation of life. The idea is that throughout life, we must enjoy and relish the chapters and challenges we face, and rather let go of tense and stressful mindsets. To realize the idea that we should not feel as though we are surviving in this world, and instead prospering in the gift of life. I am alive and pursuing what I am passionate about, and there is no better achievement than that of a fulfilled life.
