My Future Career Plan by Vanessa - March 2020 Scholarship Essay

I am currently a senior high school student planning to go to college. Ever since I was little I did not like the idea of going to college one bit. I thought that going to school was a waste of time and money. As I got older I realized my experiences drove me to want to study for a career and help as many people as I could. My intended major is to be a Dietitian/ Nutritionist and to possibly work in the eating disorder units. I decided to go towards this career because for almost two years now I have been struggling with an eating disorder. It’s hard to realize the effects the disorder can have on your mental or physical health. That is why I want to go into this career, because I want to help others and show them that it is possible to recover, even if my journey is not over yet. It might be a long journey, but reaching a point of peace and happiness is possible, even if we can not realize it in the moment.
After high school I intend to attend Western Illinois University and pursue a bachelor's degree in Dietetics. After receiving my diploma and certificate, after 4 to 5 years, I want to first travel and take a bit of a break. I want to explore the world and figure out what I want to do next in my career journey. I will probably be traveling for a few months. After my travels I don’t want to have a family anytime soon so I will plan on finding a stable career either in hospitals or community health centers. Towards the ten year mark I will probably already have a family or if not, getting an apartment/ house, enjoying both working in the hospitals/ community, and maybe traveling if my financial status allows it.
Though I am not for sure what my career plans will look like in ten years all I know is that I want to work as hard as I can to be able to support myself and live as much of a successful life as I can, even if it does take longer than ten years.
