Future Leaders by Vanesa - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

Leader- the person who leads or command a group, organization, or country. A true leader is someone who has power, and who can handle all the pressure. When starting college, leadership skills are very important they determine how a student will be out in the real world.

These skills can apply to a student when they are in college because in college an individual moves more independently. Students have nothing to hide behind; students are no longer followers of a crowd, they are their own person. Parents are no longer an option, because the student is having to figure out what career they want on their own. This involves getting books, keeping in contact with teachers, knowing their degree plan, having to study to get good grades, being able to provide transportation to the campus, and being able to lead small group activities. Having the skills necessary allows a student to get things done throughout college. Everything a student knows is having to be put forth, or commanded by the student.

The development of leadership skills allows a person to move on with life and get things accomplished. Students are more likely to have a great career and have a brighter future. Many careers look to see if students are able to handle themselves under pressure and to see how they are able to handle being pressured. Careers also look to see if you have the leadership skills they are looking for in an associate, they look at your accomplishments throughout your college career.

Students who have leadership skills will be able to handle the pressure of being independent and having to command others in group activities. Other colleges, and even careers, look for these skills in a student that is why it is a good thing for young adults begin to develop leadership skills. Being a leader or even showing the potential to become one is a positive thing in every student’s life.
