Bold and Outgoing by Vallesky - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

Leadership may seem intimidating to most people, but on the contrary, it is a great quality to have. With leadership, come new skills that a college student can use to have a successful semester. Being in a leadership position can set someone apart from another student in college, and can truly help someone survive college.

Leadership skills can help a college student learn how to plan ahead, learn great social and speaking skills, and learn how to handle being in charge of other people and certain activities. All these benefits can help a student in and out of the classroom, because planning ahead is an important skill that needs to be mastered in college. Students should always take the time to plan out their schedules so they can see when they are available to study, go to practice, finish a project, and even hang out with friends. Planning a schedule is identical to a leader planning out an agenda for a meeting or field trip.

In addition, with each leadership position, a new bullet can be added to a resume. Colleges love diverse students, and there is no better way to start being a part of new clubs than college. Being a member of a club is one thing, but taking charge of the club and making it your own is another picture. Having leadership positions can truly come in handy when applying for internships in college and even trying to get a job to pay tuition.

Finally, students who have exposure to leadership skills are truly unique. Not every leadership position is the same, therefore with each position there is something different the leader has to do. This makes the leader have a diverse background on different leadership skills used for different clubs. Leaders are creative people who always have a solution, but most importantly they are the role model of the club. Being put into a leadership role can have a plethora of benefits not only in college, but in daily life. Everyone is their own canvas, but it’s their decision how they want to paint it. Are you bold and outgoing by trying new leadership roles or blue and timid by sitting back and being a “member”?
