Creating and Preparing for a Better Future by Ugo - August 2016 Scholarship Essay
In high school, I did great in my core subject classes
from English, math, history and science. I made good grades in
those core classes with the help and encouragement of friends
and family pushing me to never quit when it gets hard. I was a
good student in high school thanks to the people supporting me
every day and I really thank them for all of the help. However,
there is one class subject that taught me life lessons for the
future which was career management.
Career management is class focused on exploring different careers
and opportunities one can attain after high school and college. In this
class, we learned how to fill out a resume, job application, and college
application for the future and use it when we need it. I also learned
different qualities and characteristics about how people act in a job
environment whether it’s outside or inside. My teacher Mrs. Burger told
my class that graduating high school is a stepping stone for college to
pursue a degree in college or attain a decent job in the workforce. In
addition, she told us that we have to earn everything and hard work in
the beginning when we start our career so we can live comfortable later
on. After she told us that statement, it inspired me to work harder in my
high school career to accomplish great things and be involved in my
school. I have joined clubs like HOSA, National Honor Society, NSHSS,
and English club in my school to be active while holding an officer
position. I am glad that I did these extra circular activities since it helped
me in the other activities I do outside of school. I have learned a lot of lessons from my family, school
teachers, karate, football, Boy Scouts (Eagle Scout) and other activities I do which helped me grow in my leadership and experience. Through football and Boy Scouts, I learned and experienced teamwork and leadership with different people and ages on how they listen and act. It taught me that being a leader is more
than just being in charge, it takes patience and tolerance to
deal with other people's opinions and ideas to solve a
problem or major issue with great teamwork to get the job
done when I observed it being a camp staff member. In
karate, I learned about discipline, respect, character,
teaching other kids, and responsibility. These qualities
helped me to develop into a better individual for everyday
life. As a Christian, the sermons and teachings I have
learned from has impacted my life in many ways to
become a better person for others and myself. I will be a
great student in the ECU community and willing to work
hard.
I really thank Mrs. Burger for being my teacher in my
career management class to guide me in different career
paths I can choose. It helped me to grow and learn
different strategies to help me in the future. At first, I was
unsure of a career interest but thanks to my family and
teachers I have decided to major in health service
management.
