Emotional Story Telling by Tyrik - July 2017 Scholarship Essay
Ted Talks have been around for awhile now giving people a voice they generally wouldn’t have to an audience who normally wouldn’t listen. Taking in a Ted Talk is the beauty in itself to see a perspective from someone with knowledge in a field we generally wouldn’t consider. For me, my expertise is about video games. A medium of entertainment that is ever evolving and growing but still is not taken seriously no matter the strides they take in storytelling.
For me, my Ted Talk would go in depth of how Video Games as a medium of art is best not only for the impression that art can leave you but go the step further and the immersion you can experience from playing a video game. I would, of course, lean to a more comedic approach talking about the past of video games with the classics such as Pong and Pac-man. But I would immediately jump to video games that hold critical acclaims such as Heavy Rain, The Last of Us, or That Dragon, Cancer. All of these games are critically acclaimed for their storytelling and characters that are not only real people but depending on the choice of the player real people who react in ways a person would.
