Patience by Tyra - February 2023 Scholarship Essay
There are so many soft skills that have a very big impact on a successful education. However, among all of those skills patience is one skill that many people struggle to learn and use. Patience is a skill that can be used in numerous situations even if it is not noticed. By using this skill many people are able to use other soft skills along with it to strengthen their approach to the situation at hand. By constantly exercising this skill it can allow someone to get farther in their education than they possibly thought they could. This soft skill takes limitations off of many situations. All while giving the person using this skill a clear headspace to work in. Which is why the patience is the soft skill that has the biggest impact on a successful education.
People are taught about patience from a very young age. This could be in ways such as being told to wait your turn or learning to take your time while doing an activity. Even though everyone is originally taught this skill some had more trouble with it than others. Some people were able to pick up on the skill and use it through out their day to day lives. However, others were not as fortunate and some were not able to continually use the skill. While growing up the skill of patience becomes more and more important to have and be able to use. This could be while driving, or competing an assignment, even when doing something simply like getting a hair cut or nails done. However it is the most demanding educationally.
It is important for a student to have patience because it could allow them to learn and retain much more of the information being taught to them. If a student does not understand a certain topic it is easy for them to get frustrated and give up. However by having patience they are able to break the topic down and find ways to understand it. By doing this the student is able to build upon their new knowledge and use what they learned toward up coming topics. Patience teaches a student to slow down and think about what it is that they're doing. Without patience students would try to rush through assignments and topics without actually learning anything from them. Which is why it is important for a student to know when to slow down and when to not give up on themselves. That is the most effective way a student can achieve the most from any situation.
Students face many tough situations that they must get through in order to be successful. However, every student has a limit on their problem solving skills. However by having patience they can take away a lot of those limitations. For example, if there is a group assignment students are faced with the choice of what group they will join. At that moment the student is only thinking about which group would be the best choice. However, by having patience the student can take more time to think about their decision instead of picking from the beginning. The student can think about which group they will be able to work more effectively with and which group would be able to work in a timely manner.
Overall the best soft skill for a student to possess is patience. If learned and used in the right way it can be put into use at any time to make situations a lot more smooth. It is a skill that can allow students to learn to their full ability without giving up and shorting themselves on the knowledge they could possible possess. This skill is also used very often outside of the classroom during normal activities that many people do not realize the skill is being used for. It gives students the best mindset when approaching different situations even if it must be paired with another soft skill. Even though there are many soft skills that people learn patience can be one of the most trickiest to get. But having patience has the biggest impact on having a successful education.
