Growing Through Writing by Tylie - August 2016 Scholarship Essay
The academic subject that I learned the most from in my ongoing high school career would have to be my A.P. English III class, with Ms. Maritza Rodriguez. I consider English to be my best subject due to my writing techniques and understanding of the subject. Taking this course with Ms. Rodriguez not only opened my eyes to the capability I have in writing, but also to the many ways one can interpret the world of writing and the Old English language.
During my time in the class I was challenged to my limits and pushed further in writing than I have ever been. Topics reaching the difficult social issues of rape and suicide, to the humanity of robots were far from uncommon in the course. Having to write about subjects so raw, emotional, and out of my zone of comfort was a major thought-provoking aspect of the class.
I have matured and grown as a writer and reader of works I would had once thought unimaginable to understand. Not only did the class impact me in the subject of English, but it also helped me better understand other major courses such as History and Psychology. I say this because I am able to grasp the viewpoints of important historical figures and psychologist through just their writings.
Despite the stress and questioning of my abilities to write a decent paper, I am thankful for the opportunities given to me throughout the duration of the course. Writing and reading has become a second nature to me thanks to the obstacles given by Ms. Rodriguez, and I hope to continue growing with the lessons I am so grateful to have earned.
