My Ultimate Stratagem by Tyler - December 2017 Scholarship Essay
So one day your given a project out of the blue, what do you do? Well it really depends on the subject I suppose. Lets say it is an English project, where I am told to find discrepancies in advertisements. Something like this makes me think “What is it that I’m looking for? The attraction or repulsion of the images? The grammar errors? Why not both?” I then write down all the questions I am currently asking myself in order to remember for later to add those in. When it comes to advertisements, where they try to appeal to a certain demographic, I can’t get a proper response from just myself. I would then go out and ask classmates what they thought of the ads and if they saw anything off about them. Taking their responses and placing them into my paper gives it a sort of legitimacy that shows well in an assignment. Now lets say that there was a project in History where we needed to make a presentation to show the class. This is where strategy takes place. I immediately think of the grading process which is most likely going to be around the creativity, accuracy, and presentation of the project. I then take into consideration on how many are allowed in a group. If it’s one or two I can still work around that and find the person to cover my weak points while I focus on my strong suits. If three or four are allowed on the project than I’m golden. I would immediately start crowd searching on who is the best in the subjects I previously listed and start head hunting. I would even metaphorically snipe people from others just to secure the potential group. However it isn’t as simple as walking up to a stranger and asking them to join. You have to think of cliques and personalities. I would much rather have a mediocre artist who strives for perfection than a Picasso who barely lifts his head during lectures. Also if you recruit one person you are more likely to recruit another one or two along with them. If you think in this sort of way things can get a little tangled, but just sit and breathe. It’s not all about the people though. We need to think on how, when, and where we are working on the project. Without proper planning we won’t finish the project, so all of our hard work will have been a waste. Typically I’ll just mediate between where and when we’ll work and allow the others to work on the how problem. If you follow through with a guideline you create than that project is as good as secured!
