Future Outlook by Tyler - June 2013 Scholarship Essay
This essay explains what college means to me as it relates to my future. I plan on going to Jacksonville State University (JSU) and getting a communications degree and I want to also play football, and just broaden my mind and outlook on life.
First, I plan to become a sports analyst or I want to be a lawyer that focuses specifically in sports/entertainment cases because if I do not make it in football, I want to make sure I want to make sure I have other career options. I believe I am a good athlete and I just love talking about sports in general. I have a very outgoing personality with a passion for people. Also, I have a strong interest in the human condition. Going out of my way to help others is not a problem for me. I am also a very well spoken person. I actually really care about people even if I do not know them very well. This is just in my DNA because my Grandmother was a caring person. I try to emulate her in everything I do.
Secondly, I really want to play football at JSU. It has been my dream every since I started playing sports when I was five years old. I live, breathe, and eat sports. I played baseball, basketball, and football growing up. I even did karate and was on a bowling team! My Grandmother died while I was in my junior year in high school. It has been very difficult dealing with the loss. I also was injured my senior year in high school which was a heartbreaker. I persevered and continue to work out and stay in shape. I am healthy again and ready to play!
Thirdly, I am an only child that has been raised by a single parent. I feel my life to some extent has been sheltered. Going off to college will give me a chance to get out of my comfort zone and learn some new things. I can get involved in social organizations and possibly take advantage of leadership opportunities. I will meet new people and see new things. I feel that I will be academically challenged in a simulating environment at JSU.
In summary, I just want to further myself so that I can be an asset to society. Also, I feel like I have so much potential that has not been tapped into yet. I am willing to share it all. My future plans are to attend JSU and obtain a communications degree, play football, and broaden my mind and outlook on life.
