The Afterwords Club by Ty'elle - September 2019 Scholarship Essay

As a person who takes extracurricular activities everyday such as Gaming Club and Marching Band it would be great to create another activity. My activity would be for the kids who don’t want to go home for various reasons, reasons for staying depending on the person. I feel so passionately about this club because so many kinds linger at school constantly trying to stay and do homework at school or just need something to do to pass the time by. It’s also a way to keep these kids off the street and out of trouble. This club will not turn anyone down or away based on their religion, race, grades or disability, because the club’s motto is “No student turned away,” Activities in this club includes study sessions and groups allows students who typically have no friends or no desire to remain in their home environment can stay after school in this club. Snacks will be provided and a way to raise money for this club is through fundraisers in order to go on after school trips to places the students would like to go that are beneficial to each person personally and academically.
This club is devoted to make sure students can meet and get to know their peers and confide in each other as well as get a chance to do work outside of their home environment, whatever it may be for them. Not many people get the chance to eat at home or live in a safe environment; most students enjoy going to school to avoid their home issues or just don’t want to go home for the sake of feeling isolated or disconnected from people in the world outside of school. This club will have similar aspects of recreational clubs back in the day that no longer exist in schools. Clubs help people to find out what they like, what they want to do in life, and help with mental issues and emotions as any high school student would have.
The funds and activities are like a circuit. To have activities such as trips would have to come from fundraisers. During the time of winter and the late fall, or spring and end of the school year participants in this club will have the chance to make and sell things from the club to raise money. Items can vary from art, custom buttons, anything members make including food (Members participating in the fundraisers can earn service learning hours as well as earn service hours on certain trips that involve community and learning). Whatever idea they have they can pursue with the support of their peers. Let’s make this club a reality for all students who want to stay after school.
