The Most Important Book by Tucker - October 2023 Scholarship Essay
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth…” (ESV Bible, Genesis 1:1)
The world is full of books. From children’s literature to mysteries to historical fiction, you can select whichever book that you would like to read. I have typically enjoyed reading young adult fiction novels.
I have enjoyed the series by Jason Reynolds, called "Ghost" about a seventh-grade boy who must deal with a lot in his life. He is called Ghost when he learned to run one time his dad threatened him and his mom with a gun. It was a New York Times best seller and National Book Award for Young People’s Literature finalist.
Although the "Ghost" series is my favorite series, if I could have everyone in the world read one book, it would be the Bible. The reason for that is the Bible shows us God never changes and always loves us no matter what we do. The Bible reveals God’s faithfulness and holiness to his people. It gives us comfort knowing that there is someone there for us no matter what, no matter what we do that may be bad, He will never stop loving us. The Bible gives us a sense of grace and peace. According to the Guinness World Records as of 1995, the Bible is the best-selling book of all time with an estimated 5 billion copies sold and distributed. (“Best selling book of non-fiction” Guinness World Records Archived from the original on 15 March 2015.”)
The founders of The Gideons International started placing Bibles in hotel rooms starting in 1908 so that people may seek comfort and solace while they are away from home. I know when I am in a hotel room, away from my own home and away from my cat and dog, I get lonely and miss my friends and pets. I think it is a great idea to put Bibles in hotel rooms, so that people won’t feel so lonesome and know that they are not alone in the world.
The Bible teaches us lessons and ways that we should live our lives; it gives us a closeness to God and a knowledge that He is with us wherever we go and will never forsake us. The Bible is the most important book in the world.
