Dirt Bikes by Tristan - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

Riding dirt bikes takes a lot of training and skill. Most people that don't ride think that It's super easy and doesn't take any skill. Going over big logs and going through creeks is actually really tough. When you're racing for over two hours, you get really tired and exhausted. National professional riders take over twenty mile bike rides then go and ride for a couple hours. There is a lot of training that is needed for this sport.
Most bikes weigh close to or over two hundred pounds, so picking up the bike can sometimes be tough. National races last over three hours and those are really tough. If you race supercross, some jumps are over seventy feet long. That takes a lot of commitment. You are either going to make it or you will get seriously hurt.
Dirt bike racing also uses a lot of money for parts, traveling and entree fees. I've played high school sports, but none of them are as tough as this sport. Studies show that dirt bike racing is the most physical demanding sport in the world. I agree with that because you’re out racing for hours, sweating your butt off. Sometimes, I have to travel over nine hours just to get to a race.
