Why Engineering is Right for Me by Trevor - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

Originally, I thought I wanted to be an engineer because I’ve always excelled in and enjoyed math and science. It wasn’t until I took a concurrent enrollment engineering course that I began to get a good idea of why I wanted to be an engineer. This class let me get a deeper look at engineering, by forcing me to problem-solve on my own. Having to work through problems logically and applying real-life physics and principles challenged me, but the feeling when I was finally right is what inspired me to pursue engineering. Another reason I want to go into engineering is that I enjoy learning how things work; being able to see the things I learn about in school applied in real life inspires me to create machines of my own. Additionally, the more I grow as a person, the more I realize that I want to impact other people’s lives positively, and I believe I can do this using engineering to improve upon existing technology or create new technology. Finally, I want to start a business with my friend who is also going into engineering. Currently, we want our company to be based around agriculture. We are unsure what it will look like, but right now we think it will merge farm equipment and new technology like AI. An engineering degree is perfect for this and it would be best suited for my future. That's why engineering is right for me.
