deeper thinking and deeper feeling by Tory - December 2018 Scholarship Essay

Not everyone is cut out to be a recipient of a Nobel Prize. In fact, many people do not come close. In order to qualify to be elegible for the Nobel Prize, an individual must possess two specific qualities. Abstractness and sincerity. Both traits I have noticed are vanishing from our society at an alarming rate.

The entire concept of "abstractness" might confuse those who do not understand. If someone is abstract, they possess many different qualities that put them into that one category. Abstractness not only applies to ones' thought process but the way they might express themselves. It helps us to understand why everyone's distinct. The whole concept of being abstract applies to very few individuals, especially in today's society. Majority of the young adults today are about conformity and what they can do to make themselves seem one with the herd. It's almost as if people are afraid to have their own thoughts and opinions, dreading the possibility of offending someone. That's why conformity is the way most people go. To be abstract is more than what someone might wear on the outside. It applies to someone's true, un-masked, raw self. Who they are inside and not just on the outside. There are multiple ways one might be "abstract". Asking questions from multiple perspectives, constantly questioning the "why" and "how" of scenarios, taking into consideration many ideas without disclosing any of them, thinking on another level. An abstract person will ask questions that most would avoid. This is what exempts them from the rest.

What exactly does it mean to be sincere? Is it just a disclaimer that goes at the bottom of an email? Is it more than that? The act of being sincere applies to how someone treats not only themselves but others. A person with a multitude of friends cannot gather that amount without showing some sort of character trait that intrigues others. Kindness and compassion are slowly fading in our everyday lives. Not often will someone voluntarily participate in a random act of kindness or put another person before themselves without expecting something in return. A sincere person would do anything without expecting a single thing in return. They speak from the depths of their heart, always. Sincerity is a very important trait because it's hard to come by anymore. It's being truthful, showing integrity, and having candor. Sincerity is having an absolute interest in something without expecting a personal benefit from it. It's being true to oneself while respecting others.

I chose these traits because they're legitimate characteristics that I value in others. I enjoy abstract thoughts and ideas and the discussions that follow them. To think outside of one's own mind is to harness a power that most can't fathom. It allows for the establishment of inner peace as well as a deeper understanding of the world surrounding us. I don't think there's anything more important than to be a sincere individual. Without sincereness, what would happen to our society? Would it fall to the ground like Rome or would it continue in a path of moral turpitude? Truth be told, we wouldn't know happiness without experiencing pain; however, I do not think I could live in a world without good samaritans. It's a necessity for so many lives to have someone or something to rely on.
