Getting Prepared For My Major by Tori - December 2020 Scholarship Essay
My role model since I was very little has been my pediatrician, Dr. Minguah He. She was born in China, and overcame so much adversity to become a successful doctor in America. I've always seen her as one of the most kind and intelligent women that I know. Her hard work has inspired me, and I now plan to follow in her footsteps. This fall I will be enrolling in the Biomedical Science program at Morehead State University. I am aware that pre-med will not be an easy major. It will require a lot of studying, and hard work to be successful. For this reason, my New Years resolution will be to prepare myself for this rigorous program.
I plan on starting the process of preparation by using my current classes to increase my knowledge. I am currently a dual credit student; I am enrolled at both Halifax Area High School and Harrisburg Area Community College. I will be taking 12 college credits in the spring and my goal is to achieve a gpa of 3.5 or higher for the semester. I believe by achieving this goal I will increase my comprehension of the material at hand. By doing so I will be better prepared to take on the more challenging courses associated with the Biomedical Science program.
Time management is an essential skill for college students, especially those entering demanding majors. As an elite athlete I have been developing time management skills all throughout my highschool career. Juggling up to 18 hours of practice with honors and AP classes has been no small test of will. I am aiming to perfect my time management skills in order to be better prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. These skills will be very important as I am not only entering a difficult major, but I will also be trying out for one of the most competitive college cheer teams in the country. Along with academics and athletics, I would like to be involved in a volunteer program offered by my university to train service dogs. Superior time management skills will be instrumental to my success in all three of these areas.
My choice to enter a complicated field of study is not one that I take lightly, and I want to be prepared the absolute best that I can. This will be my educational New Years resolution, because it will contribute greatly to my future goals. I aim to get the most out of my education. Being prepared will help me to do that.
