When I'm 27 by Timothy - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
To better guide you into where I will be in my life ten years from now, I will tell you where I am at now. I am 17 years old and attend a middle college (dual enrollment program). My goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner and in the past I have thought about possibly owning my own practice. Lately I've seen commercials about the "Selling it in the ATL" and I find the real estate business interesting. If I go into Real estate I would be apart of residential real estate instead of commercial. I volunteer with many different programs ranging from gerontology to disabled children. After I get my nestled into my career and have gained a substantial amount of savings, I plan to start an organization that links potential volunteers to businesses or programs that need volunteers. However that will be past my way past my ten year mark so I will return the questions that were asked.
My career goal is to be a Nurse Practitioner as I have previously said. I am currently a senior in high school and have been accepted to all six colleges that I have applied to. I am not sure which one I will go to as of yet but all six of them have exceptional nursing programs. My high school education has helped me on the path to where I will be in ten years already. Being in a dual enrollment has given me an even greater advantage because now I will be able to get out of college sooner and start my career. In order to be a Nurse Practitioner(N.P.)I will have both a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing degree. Although at the moment I do not think I need to get a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, I may have to in order to be at the top of my field. In case I decide to become a real estate agent later on in my life, there are a different set of licenses that I will need to obtain.
Before starting this scholarship application process, I never truly took the time out to discover what kind of degree or license I would have to have to build and maintain my own practice. I was gearing more toward having a business partner which would be a business major, to handle the business side of this practice while I handle the medical side. It just seemed to make sense to me but then I thought "why have partner when you can get the same education as them, and do it on your own?"
In conclusion to this essay, even though I am unsure on what my life will hold ten years from, I am certain that education will be there every step of the way.
