Building a Path into the Future: My Experiences in Engineering by Timothy - November 2020 Scholarship Essay

Throughout my education, I have had various opportunities that have helped me learn and explore different career paths. I am most grateful for the opportunities I have had in engineering, both in and out of school, that have led me to this career path.

On my first day of freshmen year, my school held a club fair, with a multitude of activities to choose from. I have always loved creating and building things, from legos to pinewood derby cars. Naturally, I was attracted to the robotics club booth and decided that I would try it out. I quickly grew to love going to robotics meetings, where my team and I would work slowly but surely towards creating our final product. Through my time in robotics, I have learned the importance of working together as a team, and how important it is to rely on others when working on a big project. I also grew to love engineering and realized this is a career I want to go into when I graduate from high school. Robotics has been an experience I have been extremely grateful for in my education, and I would never be in the same place I am today without it.

After my first year of robotics, I decided to explore engineering classes that my high school offered. In taking these classes, I learned more about the engineering process as well as about the different types of engineering that I could explore. I gained exposure to various skills as well, such as CAD modeling, hands-on construction, and programming, among others. These are skills that further strengthened my desire to be an engineer, and are skills that have helped me prepare for college.

From robotics to engineering classes, I have had the opportunity to learn more about this subject area, and my passion for engineering has only grown. These opportunities in my education have set me upon my current path, and I will forever be grateful for them.
