The Captain in LeaderSHIP by Tiffany - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Are leadership skills necessary for college success? What an interesting question to think about! Before anyone can answer that question, one must understand the meaning of leadership and success. Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization, but success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. However, those two words have different meanings to different people, I believe leadership skills are necessary for success, regardless what those words may mean to you. Leadership skills are important to discover who you are as a person.
When transitioning from high school to college, it's a big step to take. In order for a person to truly experience college, they must know themselves first. Whenever a person makes the decision to be themselves, they're becoming a leader. Think of college as your ship and you're the captain, only the captain runs the ship. In other words, on you can make your college experience, therefore, you must stand out and lead to be successful in college. Whether you just want to graduate in four years or graduate at the top of your class, at some point you'll have to be different and not follow the crowd to gain your success. Leadership is standing out and making a difference.
In conclusion, leadership skills are necessary for success because success is defined by who you are. If you haven't discovered who you are as a person you won't know your success. To me leadership is being yourself because you're taking that chance of being different and standing out from the crowd.
