How do you hope to bring change to your intended career field? by Tiffany - June 2020 Scholarship Essay
I have aspirations of becoming a bioengineer working with medical devices. To acquire a chance to make the world a little more beautiful by taking part in helping improve the quality of life for everyone. It would be an honor for me to apply my learned knowledge to conduct research of the ever growing new technological advancements. For instance, pacemaker implantations are currently powered by batteries and can be quite bulky but self-generating pacemakers are in the works. In the near future, the increased efficient self-generating pacemakers will become a reality, thus making it safer for the recipient. It has come a long way and continuous developments will forever be made.
I dream of contributing to this field by hopefully finding a way to prevent our eyes from progressively getting worse. Being able to see bright and clearly can easily be taken for granted. We don’t know how great it is until problems start to become evident. It’s quite inconvenient when you forget your glasses back at home and it prevents you from completing minor tasks. Especially since it’s something that is out of our control. Although corrective lenses and operative surgeries do exist like Lasik, it does not prevent refractive error from occurring over time. Refractive error takes place when our eyes do not bend light correctly, leading to blurred vision. I do not yet know of how this will be solved, but I envision the development of something further advanced than blue light but will solve this problem altogether. It may seem nearly impossible, but every new proposed solution can delay this process and is a step close to achieving adequate vision for people of all ages.
My interest in this specific career field knows no bounds. I often find myself dumbfounded by the possibilities this career entails. The impact I could potentially have on thousands and thousands of lives by contributing to the process and design of a complex hunk of combined earthy materials. Even a seemingly less significant research I take part in and the discoveries made can trigger revolutionary success that results into a lasting effect for generations to come. As a matter of fact, the ability to save or improve the qualities of one singular life is equally precious to a whole football stadium. Little change or big change, it’s all simply beautiful.
