My Popular Educational Podcast by Tiffany - August 2018 Scholarship Essay
Many college students tune into educational podcast either for their own leisure or to gain new information about a certain topic. Upon my research about educational podcasts, I came to a realization that the majority of educational podcasts are about topics that are already taught in school. Such as history, science, business, etc. I believe that it would be beneficial and entertaining to have a popular educational podcast simply being about the daily life of a college student.
When incoming college freshman are preparing for this new chapter in their lives they only get the gist of what it is like from current or alumni college students. Many freshman are nervous and do not know what to expect with this change, and when they ask what is it like they do not get a detailed explanation. If I had an educational podcast it would conquer that freshman fear.
The name of this podcast would be called “College Insight”. A handful of college students, with different majors, would take turns talking on this podcast every day. There would be no set topic of discussion except how their day was. Students can talk about all kinds of things such as what classes they had that day, what they learned, what their assignments were, what their schedule looked like, how to get involved with school, what it is like to live on campus, what it is like to commute, tips and tricks on how to take notes and study, how to have time management, etc. I believe that the incoming freshman would enjoy this podcast and if they listened to it frequently they would have a better understanding of what it is like to be a college student and what to expect.
College is exciting but terrifying at the same time. Students might be excited to meet new people or start taking classes about a career they want to spend the rest of their lives pursuing. However, that does not change the fact that they might be nervous about being more independent, managing their time, or keeping up with their assignments. My podcasts ultimate goal would be to get rid of all those worries simply by having current college students talk about how their day went in detail.
