A Piano Education Leads to a Forte Life by Thomas - March 2018 Scholarship Essay

Whatever you want to do when you get older, education is preparing you for it. Of course, it is probably hard to know what exactly you want to do. That is one way that having an education can actually help. I figured out halfway through high school what I would really like to do, and that’s to be a physicist. The farther you go in your education, the more you can learn about the different jobs in the world and the better you can decide what you want to do. Highschool lets you start learning about what you might be interested in by allowing you to choose some of your classes. College does even more for you by really helping you to figure out what you would like to do, because you have a lot of choice as to what you will be learning in college.

Now, imagine that you want to become a famous piano player. Think about taking a piano, and figuring out how to play it, all on your own. It’s not easy. Education is like a piano teacher. They guide you and teach you. So, having a piano teacher for several years is like completing high school, and having a piano teacher nearly your entire career is like going to college. By having so much education, you are getting help setting yourself up for success, so that all you have to do is put some time in and then go out and do whatever it is that you want to do.
