Thankful for College by Tessa - November 2016 Scholarship Essay
If there was a requirement for a list of people who did not attend, or dropped out of, college in my family it would be quite substantial. Neither of my grandmothers or grandfathers went to college. One of my grandfathers did not even complete high school. My mother and my father graduated from high school and then entered into the workforce immediately. My eldest brother is a high school dropout who then dropped out of college and enlisted in the National Guard. My next oldest brother immediately entered the workforce as well. The only person in my family who has received a college education is my older sister, who does not use her bachelors in accounting at all!
The family I have encourages me to continue my education further than high school. My family has encouraged me to maintain good grades and be involved in my community so that I may be able to receive scholarships and loans in order to get an education that allows me to do what I love: work with kids.
The thing about my college experience that I will be most thankful for, is that I have the ability to receive one at all! There are many kids who cannot afford college, or do not have the availability that I have. College is absurdly expensive. I am greatly thankful that my parents in particular have motivated me to do the best that I can in order to be able to get scholarships and money to be able to pay for the college education that I need to serve children as an educator.
