Medical Occupations at WRVC
Here at Westbrook Regional Vocational Center, I am a second year student in the Medical Occupations trade. In our class we cover all the body systems, vital signs, bed-making, wound care, the heart, etc. In our second year, as a tech 2, we dive deeper into the body. Upon completion of the first school year, you get your PSS certification. A pss is a personal support specialist. If you are a pss than you will most likely work with older adults and people with disabilities. Once completing your second year the the medical occupations program, and 70 hours of clinical experience, you will be a certified CNA, and be certified in phlebotomy. To me, being a CNA straight out of high school sounds like a lot of money saved.
Being able to keep my grades up while juggling school, family and work is tough but worth it. My first year in this program I held my grade above a 93 for the whole school year. For each quarter of the year wt WRVC, you are awarded with a certificate for making the Director’s List and a free t-shirt with “WRVC Director’s List” on it. When I ended my first year in med occ, I went home with four paper certificates. So far in my second year, I already have a certificate and a t shirt. This is my high school accomplishment that I am most proud of because I have a lot going on this year and am still able to do well in school. I am thankful for my two teachers that have taught me everything I know about the medical field. Without them I would not have got to experience the class environment or have met all of my fiends that I made while in that class.
