Studying Abroad by Teresita - March 2016 Scholarship Essay
All students have preferences. Some love living at home and like to go to universities that are close by so that they can still live at home. Others do not really enjoy being home, so when they go to universities they prefer to go somewhere a little further from home so that they could have their distance. Lastly, others love being at home but also love to travel and meet new places, that is when the students go out and study abroad. Studying abroad is the act of a student pursuing educational opportunities in a country other than one's own. Studying abroad is, in my opinion, one’s option and should not be required.
Studying abroad is a big commitment and it is not as easy to get out of. To get out of it a student would have to first unenroll and after find a bus or plane back home. Many people get really homesick but are not too far to visit during the weekend. If you are in another country it is kind of difficult to visit your family for a weekend.
There might be some positives to studying abroad. One positive might be the fact that a student does not know anyone. Not knowing anyone is a huge perk because then the student will not get distracted by anything and they can study and take class with their undivided attention. Over all I think that studying abroad is a huge commitment and it should be the student’s choice, it should not be required.
