My Climb to Success by tenoch - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

I have always been a fairly good student when it comes to tests and learning the actual content but my downfall ultimately came down to homework because I would simply get too distracted at home and had so many things to do. Although that is not an excuse I had a very hard time keeping organized and on top of all my work, so I talked to my counselor to make the biggest change in my highschool career, I joined AVID.
At first I was hesitant because ever since middle school there has been a stigma with AVID where everyone would think it was for people doing bad in school and I didnt want to be known as that. So I did research and I talked to multiple people and I finally joined and I couldn't have made a better choice. I was taught how to organize and adjust my schedule to give myself maximum time to finish my work at home and keep an agenda for myself. Another factor that contributed to my success because of avid was the “family feel” of the whole program, the idea that everybody is in it together and students as well as our teachers help us continue to grow and check in on us. This support combined with the introduction to organizational skills prompted me to a more successful highschool experience.
