Question: Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? How will your education help you get there?
Raised in a family with strong beliefs and values in the Christian faith, love and dedication epitomizes my being. Many memorable moments, both joyous and sad, have played major roles in shaping me. I realize these rich experiences encountered over the years, are a result of a family’s love and dedication for one another. Because of these instilled beliefs and values, I am no stranger to hard work and dedication. Therefore, attaining these basic characteristics will take me a long way as I aspire to become the best that I can be. Realizing and appreciating more than ever now, it is important to dedicate yourself to the things you love and love the things that you are dedicated to. With this approach, 10 years from now I see myself as a leader in the advancement of healthcare…locally, nationally, & globally. I sense my goals are attainable and accomplishments endless.
For this reason, I am seeking a degree in the medical field because of my passion for health sciences. My career goal is to become a neonatal doctor because of my desire to work with newborn infants. Furthermore, I have spent my entire high school career studying this particular field as a student in the Medical Magnet Program of Boca Ciega High School.
Each year I have become more driven and fascinated as I continue to learn about the medical field and health science professions. I have come to realize there is a great deal of knowledge to be gained and discoveries to be made. My interest in the medical field is the beginning of my journey to make a difference in the lives of many and the result of the natural zeal and curiosity I have for this field of study. My desire to create change and help others coupled with the education available through a research-based university will have a major impact on the world.
Furthermore, I had the privilege of attending a Student Leadership Conference during the summer of 2014 at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts that played a vital role in equipping me with the tools necessary to become an effective leader. This conference was sponsored by the National Student Leadership Foundation. While attending the conference, I had the opportunity to experience college life, develop essential leadership skills and explore future career opportunities by interacting with renowned leaders in their chosen field. Also, through the direction of this Leadership Conference I learned the value of time management, meeting many people from diverse backgrounds and nationalities, and setting goals.
Walking away from this has proven to be a very rewarding experience. It has been beneficial for me in that it has increased my self-confidence, helped me to become more independent, fostered lifelong friendships and helped me to solidify my dreams. I understand more so now that leadership skills are acquired, instilled and exemplified through purposeful guidance.
In efforts of achieving success and obtaining goals of receiving a quality education and becoming a leader in the advancement of healthcare, there is rigorous work ahead. My background of diverse education, achievements, skills and community involvement has equipped me for the work to be done, enabling me to make a difference through valuable contributions and service. I look forward to transitioning through my educational and professional career, ultimately helping a community at large.
