Career Dreams from College Plans by Teagan - February 2019 Scholarship Essay
In the summer of 2017 I had the traumatic experience of a Gran Mal Seizure. The onset of these unspecified Epilepsy episodes was the catalyst that directed my career pursuit. I knew that my discoveries made in my attempts to "contain" and reverse these episodes had to be given back to others. I resolved to study the field of medicine to help others who might experience the same trauma as had I. You see, it is my focus to study and learn multiple medical disciplines to bring together for the strongest, most knowledgeable care, and treatment, that I can provide to my future patients. As I have discovered that current theory for the treatment of Epilepsy is fraught with drugs that have severely negative side effects, I have vowed to myself that I will approach my patients care and treatment thru the use of Homeopathic and Naturopathic medicines and the treatment of the underlying causes of the Epileptic triggers thru treatment of the bodies combined systems. I have learned that the body has to be looked at as a whole and treated in the same manner. It is my dream to care for persons with neurological illnesses without the use of pharmacological medications.
It is with this approach that I will benefit my future patients and they will benefit from my commitment towards this approach. To achieve these goals, I am applying at various universities to study a pre-med track majoring in Biology and Naturopathic pathology. I will follow this undergraduate course of study with a graduate program in medical school with intent to specialize in the Neurology of diseases, specifically Epilepsy. I will take these various elements of study into a holistic based practice of care for those who suffer with neurological challenges.
