Moving Forward: Resolving to Improve the Mind and Body by Taylor - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
Each January 1st, many people create a New Year’s resolution for themselves. As a student, many of my goals and aspirations are connected to improving my education. This year, one of my New Year’s resolutions includes bettering my mind and body through more consistent daily exercise and a more balanced diet.
Not only does my New Year’s resolution improve myself physically, but also improves my mental skills so that I will perform better as a student. Daily exercise will allow me to feel better about myself while enhancing my positive mindset, considering dopamine is released during physical activity. By sticking to a daily plan of exercising for at least twenty minutes each day, I will commit myself to a schedule that does not severely impact the time used to fulfill my duties as a senior in high school. Through exercise, I can increase my motivation and focus for all of the activities that I do, including academics, work, volunteering, etc. Pairing daily exercise with a balanced diet only enhances these benefits and can help further improve my organization, commitment, and positivity that I pride myself in.
No matter how strong of a student you are, there is always room for improvement. This year, I want to continue to excel in school, but I also want to continue to improve my educational experience. I feel that setting goals to increase my perseverance and attention such as healthy eating and exercising could be extremely beneficial to my education. In order to be a great student, I believe that you have to maintain a positive outlook on life, education, and yourself to help further your success. This resolution is very important to me since it contains several benefits that would become useful in my life. I hope that my commitment to hard work, dedication, and positivity is reflected through my goals, plans, and resolutions.
Thank you for considering me for this scholarship.
