Lessons I have Learned by Taylor - December 2022 Scholarship Essay
There are three lessons that I have learned this year that I want and will take forward as I continue this journey and when new chapters begin in my life. Those lessons are being grateful, service before self, and not waiting till the last minute to do things.
Often times when things don’t go right we tend to think the opposite and think negative, but in life there is always something to be grateful even if it isn’t what we want. It is hard and there is definitely more good than bad in the world. The more that you think positive the better outlook and positive attitude you will have towards things.
Another thing that has been near to my heart this year is service before self. I enjoy helping others and wanting to make everyone a priority in life. From the organizations that I help with to clubs that I participate in I want to make sure that I put my all into it so that those people get the best experience. When I serve others it makes my heart happy and I know that someone out there is being loved and is cared for. Serving others before yourself helps boost my self-esteem, motivation and connects us with others in our community that we don’t work with on a regular basis.
A big one that I have come to learn this year is not waiting till the last minute to do tasks. Although I sometimes work better under pressure, it is better to get things in before the deadline. In the end, you have less stress, I have the ability to spend more time on it and make sure it makes sense. When I don’t wait to the last minute I feel I can accomplish more than when I wait and it is on my mind the entire time.
