The Bliss of a Fresh New Day by Taylor - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
The bliss of a fresh new day. It is an amazing feeling. After a good nights rest, my body is rejuvenated, renewed and ready for the tasks that lay ahead. After fully waking up, my brain turns on and I begin making mental notes of the day that lays ahead.
I am usually able to get a lot done in the mornings. One of the key contributing factors to this is the fact that I do not look at my phone in the morning. Instead, I go straight to the bathroom to get ready for the day. This includes the normal: brushing teeth and hair, washing my face, and maybe putting some makeup on to spruce things up a bit! Another thing I like to include In my morning routine is positive thinking. I believe that the first few minutes of your day, sets you up for the rest of the day. Either in a positive or a negative way. So, I make a mental list of things that I am grateful for. I love doing this because it puts me in such a good mood and really makes me realize all of the blessings that surround me.
After getting ready for the day, I go right back into my room and make my bed. I am unlike most teens my age who have to be told to make their beds. I do this because I once heard a man tell of the power in making your bed every morning. He said that by making your bed in the morning, you start off the day with a task completed. This makes you feel accomplished, and then turns into another completed task. This pattern of completing tasks and feeling accomplished will then continue into a whole days worth of successes. Lastly, he said, "and if all else fails and you had an unaccomplished or miserable day, at least you came home to a nicely made bed." Whenever I think to skip this step of my morning routine, I always think back to what I heard this wise man say.
The next part of my morning routine is dependent on what day it is. If it is a school day, I grab my backpack, get a bite to eat, and head out the door for school. However, on the days that I don't have school I like to ease into my day. This may include: listening to some good tunes, turning on a podcast, or reading a book. I even sometimes like to write in my journal or make plans for the rest of the day. After doing this, I get into some workout clothes and head to the gym. The gym is my happy place. I love it. Especially when I go in the mornings. Again, by going to the gym, it sets me up for success for the rest of the day. I am able to let go of the worries that I have, and just focus on improving myself. I am much happier when I go the gym and I know my body is happy with my decision as well.
As you can see, I believe that there is power in having a healthy morning routine. It all comes down to the simple things that we choose to fill our days with. It is the small and simple tasks, that we often look over, that ultimately make up the majority of our lives. I know that by choosing a healthy morning routine, with good habits, I am able to accomplish the great goals that I have. Mornings are so productive for me and I am proud of that. If anyone wants a healthier and happier life, they just might want to consider surprising their mothers and make their beds for a change.
