#EducationInAndOutsideTheClassroom by Taylor - April 2018 Scholarship Essay

Education can be described as the process of receiving systematic instruction, generally at a school or university.

My dream of becoming a Physical Therapist will only become a reality if I have satisfied the requirements from a college/university that I need in order to take the certification exams. In many instances, education is important, but in my case, it is not only important, it is crucial.

Education is important because it allows students to overcome obstacles... In my specific case, I need the required classes and a degree in order to apply to graduate school to study to become a Physical Therapist, but in every case and aside from needing to meet these requirements, knowledge through education always translates to power. Education opens up the doors to unlimited possibilities; often times, the student learns new things they would have never known about outside of the classroom allowing them to explore different fields of interests and ultimately opening their minds to a new future.

Education at the university and graduate levels is especially important. Education at the higher levels is meant to challenge a student in their prospective career field and really give them an idea of what a profession in that career will feel like. These programs are intended to teach everything from the basics of the career to the most rigorous areas, thus preparing the student for the real deal. Education at the higher level will expose a student to a world outside their own and push the student beyond their known limits. Education at the higher level can help a student obtain a solid career through internships and exposure to people in their field - something an uneducated person may not be able to easily accomplish.

Although, education at the university and graduate level is important and will benefit every person who accepts the commitment, education throughout one’s personal life outside of formal schooling is equally important. Education at a personal level can teach valuable lessons such as: values and morals, independence, understanding other cultures, and how to interact with others, just to name a few. I feel pretty strongly that no matter how many classes or schools one attends, there are lessons that need to be learned outside the classroom in conjunction with formal education. For example, no class I took in school ever prepared me to be as tenacious and dedicated as I have become through my extracurricular activities. All of my experiences over the past 17 years, outside and inside of the classroom have led me to who I am today and both have allowed me to gain knowledge with regard to my future career path.

There is no doubt that organized education is the key to any future, especially mine. But I will continue to educate myself outside of school as well so that I can be not only smart and educated and prepared for my future career, but well rounded because of real life experiences as well. Thank you for your time.
