Benefits of Doing Projects by Taylor - December 2017 Scholarship Essay
Doing a project in school can be very stressful if you don’t know where to begin. Often many times you procrastinate until the last minute or you don’t have any good ideas to get the project going. When I first started doing projects I had these same problems but as I started doing projects regularly I have come up with my own formula to get a project done effectively.
The first thing I do to create my projects are to follow the guidelines of the project to come up with a good topic to research. You have to make sure you are following the rules your teacher gives you to complete the project if not, you may get a bad grade for not following the criteria. A project could be for pure research purposes, argumentative or debate like or even trying to persuade someone or a group of people to agree with you. Once you have figured out what type of purpose you are trying to get across then you can focus on the topic.
The topic will make or break your project, this is where you form the solid base for all your findings and research. You have to have a solid topic so your research does not crumble when others are trying to pick it apart. Just remember you can write about anything you want but it’s even better when you believe strongly in something so you can write it easily without it seeming like it was hard to write. Just make sure you don’t throw your own beliefs into a project because then the facts could then become fuzzy and you could lose the line between fact of opinion.
The most important thing to remember when researching your topic is to find credible sources and accurate facts. This is the most important otherwise you will mislead the people who are reading your project. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you ever need help coming up with ideas when forming you project you can always ask for help or go online and see how others have formed their project. This can help you form why you want to get across to the reader and make it easier for you to write about your topic.
Similarly you need to be aware that you can NOT plagiarize anything that you find in books, articles or online. This is the most important point to remember or you won’t understand anything about your project. When you construct your own project you will become a better writer, understand the material, be able to retain the information you learn and you will be able to express your own thoughts and feelings into words. If you do plagiarize know that you could potentially receive an F, be kicked out of class or even be kicked out of your school depending on the rules at your school. If you continue to plagiarize into your professional career you could end up getting fired and receive financial repercussions or even jail time. Plagiarism is illegal because it is stealing another person’s thoughts and ideas which is a violation of their intellectual property rights.
Above all make sure that you are having fun while doing your project. You will find it easier to write about something that inspires you and this will help you from getting writers block. Doing projects regularly will help you to develop into an excellent writer in the long run. Plus you will be able to learn more and understand more things in school.
