What subject would make a difference? by Taylor - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

All subjects matter and can make a difference in any person’s life. It doesn’t matter whether it’s from math to home economics. We all have our favorite subjects and they may change as we get older. We just have to find that one subject that really clicks with you. This one subject could change your life. That is what I would want to do in teaching writing.
Teaching writing can mean different things. You can write poetry, essays, and songs; anything that expresses how you feel about something. Writing allows you to say what you need or want to say when no one is listening to your voice. Words when spoken and written are very different. When you speak about something it can often be forgotten. However, when you write about something it’s there forever. For example take poetry; when you read it you can often have something in common with the words and they can make you feel a connection and comfort with it. Poetry can often inspire others to do something. It allows you to express yourself better than you could have when just saying it. You can think about it and revise your piece before putting it out into the world and you never know who you might positively affect.
Being able to express yourself through writing is a big part of my life. I can be the person I want to be, the person I am, or the person I used to be. I can imagine by telling a story, or tell the complete truth about how I feel on an issue. There are so many ways that I can write and so many things I can say so well on paper; better than words. It can be so freeing to say what you need to say on a piece of paper because you can lay out everything without interruptions or other opinions. Everything that you have to say to someone can be put into words very eloquently and beautifully even if you only say one word.
In conclusion, teaching writing would be something very fulfilling. I would be able to teach kids how to express themselves through words on a piece of paper not through spoken words or their hands. It would teach them that there are so many ways that you can write. You can be different people, do different things, and talk about different subject that matter to you. There is not just one way to express your emotions.
