If The Roles Were Reversed by Taylor - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

If the roles were reversed, and I was the teacher and not the student, I would definitely teach a class I'm actually in right now which is Climate Change. This Earth Science class is teaching me about energy transfer and global warming. My teacher is awesome, but the reason I would want to teach this class is because I have no desire in becoming any kind of scientist or chemist, so if I were teaching this class, it would mean that I completely understand and relate to the topic. I would very much like to understand this topic better and go to class feeling completely satisfied and climate change savvy. It would mean that I have a passion in making the world a better place, on a small scale of course, but I get to teach students the ways of solving global warming and how/why it is a real problem.
One thing that this class has so much opportunity for is going outside and physically learning about the subject. I would assign my students to go outside and take pictures of clouds and describe the weather and be able to teach them what it all means. Their homework would be completely hands on and we could go on field trips to beautiful places so I could show my students the different types and aspects of weather and climate. Thus, hopefully making a lasting impression on them where when they go outside in the future and see a storm brewing, they will understand why. Or if they are flying in a plane, they can look down and predict the weather underneath them by looking at the clouds. I would show them that it's helpful and just plain interesting to know and understand the environment they live in. Even if they aren't striving to be a meteorologist or someone who studies global warming. I would make a science class that sounds boring, fun and intrigue my students as best as possible. I would give them the experience I would want personally, in a class.
