My 10 Year Career Plan by Tatum - March 2020 Scholarship Essay

My 10 year career plan will begin with studying at Oregon State for four years to earn my bachelors degree. Upon graduating, I want to attend a graduate school, such as veterinary school or nursing school. I hope to learn which path I want to go down as I study at Oregon State. In order to do so I plan on taking related courses to each of those professions, such as biology and anatomy. Classes like those will teach me about both humans and animals which is beneficial as I go through the process of deciding which I am more interested in. I want to get involved with hands-on experiences while studying at Oregon State, such as experience at the many different farms that Oregon State provides for students with an interest of animals. To add to my college experience, I hope to have the ability to study abroad and seek more skills that I yet have to discover. As I progress through my four years, I hope to be provided with all the insight I need to decide what route I'd like to take with my career. With whatever I choose as a career path, I plan on it being the thing I love to do and having the knowledge I gained from my classes at Oregon State. If I end up with taking a path down nursing, I will hopefully be working in a high speed environment where nothing is the same everyday and I can have different experiences that make me excited to go to work. This includes working in the ER or trauma unit. I think being able to save someone’s life and aiding them with their recovery process would give me all the satisfaction I could ever want or need. It would give me pride and joy to see people recover and be able to continue their lives. If I take the veterinary path then I hope to work in a clinic and care for pets. My biggest dream would to end up traveling around the world and aiding large exotic animals in different countries. Upon settling from traveling, I would open my own clinic and be the one running a business that I truly believe in by myself.
